Double & Triple Layer Crossheads Series

At a glance

Designed to work in double layer and triple layer, as well as in single layer process.

Totally made of hardened stainless steel and composed by 2 main distributors, the first one inside the second one.

The head is manual centering and it allows the centering of each layer. The centering can be:

  1. single from front, by means of die nut;
  2. single from rear by means of tip holder movement (inner layer regulation);
  3. double from front by means of die nut (outer layer regulation) and from rear by means of tip holder movement (inner layer regulation).

Treatment/coating to ensure a hardness higher than 1200 HV and lower friction coefficient available.

General characteristics of Double & Triple Crossheads Series

Designed to work in double layer (filling and sheathing – DS series) and triple layer (filling, sheathing and stripe – DS_C or 3S series). It can also work in single layer process (insulation – filling – sheathing).

Totally made of hardened stainless steel and composed by 2 main distributors, one inside the other one: the inner one process filling or inner layers, the outer one process sheathing. In case of 3S series, a skin/stripe ring can be added.

The centering can be:

  1. single from front, by means of die movement (outer layer regulation);
  2. single from rear by means of tip holder movement (inner layer regulation);
  3. double from front by means of die movement (outer layer regulation) and from rear by means of tip holder movement (inner layer regulation).

The distance between tip and die (gum space) can be regulated by:

  1. an axial die movement from front;
  2. an axial tip holder movement from rear (on request).

The die can have a dedicated thermoregulation to act on the cable surface aspect. The distributor can be thermoregulated (on request), allowing to process filling and sheathing with the same compound (extrusion temperatures quite the same) or with different compounds (with difference of extrusion temperatures higher than 40 °C).

The distributor shape, its conicity and the channels dimension are designed to process also high-viscosity compounds, reducing crossing/residence time, back pressure and material overheating, as well as increasing cable concentricity.

Treatment/coating to ensure a hardness higher than 1200 HV available, in order to ensure a lower friction coefficient between compound and head, performing the compound flow and ensuring a longer head lifetime: this allows to tackle the increasing of the loaded compound viscosity and the production needs.
